Football Coaches Name Players of the Week

BATON ROUGE — Seven LSU football players – two on offense, three on defense, and two on special teams – have earned player of the week honors for the Tigers after the 42-0 win over Mississippi State, LSU coach Nick Saban announced on Sunday.

Offensively, wide receiver Josh Reed and tackle Jason Baggett earned the award. Reed had his sixth straight 100-yard receiving game as the junior hauled in 10 passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns. Reed currently leads the Southeastern Conference and ranks second in the nation with 135.5 yards receiving a contest. In six games, Reed has caught 42 passes for 813 yards and three touchdowns.

Baggett played a key role on the Tiger offensive line that help pave the way for 138 yards rushing and three rushing touchdowns. The Tigers also allowed just one sack in the contest.

Defensively, linebacker Trev Faulk, defensive end Jarvis Green and cornerback Demetrius Hookfin were singled out after the Tigers pitched a shutout against the Bulldogs. Hookfin led the Tigers with 11 tackles, including one for a loss. Hookfin also added one pass deflection.

Faulk, who is a semifinalist for the Butkus Award, posted 10 tackles for the Tigers, while Jarvis Green added six tackles and a forced fumble. As a unit, LSU allowed only 74 yards rushing.

On special teams, Ryan O’Neal and Kyle Kipps were honored. O’Neal had four tackles, including one inside the 20-yard line, while Kipps recovered a fumble on a punt return that eventually led to an LSU touchdown in the third quarter.
