BATON ROUGE — Rohan Davey completed 15 of 21 passes for 212 yards and one touchdown and Josh Reed caught seven passes for 101 yards and a score as LSU went through its second scrimmage of the spring here Saturday in Tiger Stadium.

The Tigers return to practice on Monday followed by another session on Wednesday. LSU wraps up its spring drills next Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with the Spring Game in Tiger Stadium.

“I thought the intensity and the movement was a little bit better today,” LSU coach Nick Saban said. “I thought the biggest thing, and I told the team after the scrimmage, is some of the young guys we have that have potential to be good players don’t seem to have the sense of urgency to learn what to do, learn how to do it, and why it is important to do it that way so they have a chance to get better.

“There were too many times out there with our second team that they can’t get lined up right, can’t play the right technique. It’s not a matter of physical ability. It is a matter of execution, which we need them to have a greater sense of urgency about trying to get it right.”

Among the highlights of the scrimmage were a 70-yard run by backup running back Elice Parker as well as a 48-yard pass from backup quarterback Marcus Randall to Jack Hunt for a touchdown and a 46-yard Davey-to-Reed touchdown pass.

Parker, running with the second offense against the Nos. 2 and 3 defenses, led all rushers with 109 yards on nine carries. LaBrandon Toefield rushed for 38 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries. Toefield scored on runs of 18 yards and seven yards. Domanick Davis, who continues to play both ways, rushed for 35 yards on four carries.

Hunt was second on the squad in receiving yards with 89 yards on three catches. Reggie Robinson caught a pair of passes, including an over-the-shoulder grab, for 44 yards, while Jerel Myers caught three passes for 29 yards.

“I thought there was a little bit of improvement, especially offensively in terms of consistency,” Saban said. “We did a much better job on third down situations. I thought Rohan (Davey) had a really good day and we ran the ball a little more effectively.

“I was really pleased with the progress that we were able to make. Defensively, I thought we played pretty well. The biggest problem was that we gave up some big plays, and there were a few third down situations we probably need to get out of that I didn’t feel like we played smart in.”

Defensively, All-America candidate Trev Faulk led the Tigers with 10 tackles, including a pair of sacks. Ryan Clark had six stops and recovered a fumble and Domanick Davis had four tackles, one fumble recovery and he intercepted a pass in the endzone against the No. 1 offense.

Bradie James and Demetrius Hookfin both intercepted passes for the Tiger defense.

Donnie Jones, a freshman all-Southeastern Conference punter last year, had five punts for an average of 42.6 yards per kick, while Ryan Miles averaged 37.3 yards on three punts. Kris Kessler made kicked a 43-yard field goal and missed a 42-yarder, while John Corbello made a 38-yard attempt.

Tickets for next week’s Spring Game are currently on sale for $5 at the LSU Ticket Office. Tickets purchased on the day of the game are $10. All proceeds go to benefit the new Academic Center for Athletes.
