NEW ORLEANS — The LSU women’s tennis team is set to begin play in New Orleans this weekend at the Tulane Invitational Tournament.
The tournament begins Friday morning and will culminate Sunday at the Tulane Goldring Tennis Complex with both the singles and doubles championship matches.
“Hopefully this will be another chance for our girls to improve their tennis some before the end of the fall season,” said head coach Tony Minnis. “We’ve made some improvement so far, but there is still quite a way to go, and this would be a good place to start.”
The Tulane Invitational marks the Lady Tigers’ third tournament of the 2000 fall season. Earlier this month, LSU competed in the Indiana Hoosier Classic as well as the Southeastern Conference Coaches Championships.
The four Lady Tigers participating in this weekend’s event are juniors Tami Botts and Amy McIlhaney, along with seniors Fernanda Tsucamoto and Mandy Rice. Botts and Tsucamoto will compete in the singles “A” bracket, while McIlhaney and Rice will each attempt to win the championship title in the singles “B” bracket.
In doubles play, LSU’s Botts and Craycraft will take on Hubert/Novotna from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in the opening round of the tournament, while Tsucamoto/McIlhaney face UNO’s Veerman/Ericsson.
The Tulane Invitational Tournament begins Friday morning at 9:15 a.m. with the opening round of singles play here at the Goldring Tennis Center on the campus of Tulane University.
