TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The LSU men’s doubles team comprised of Dan Kiernan and Sebastian Rutka advanced to the championship match of the 2000 Seminole Classic Saturday with a win over their fellow Tigers Anthony Mateljan and Brandon Nicholson, 8-6.
Kiernan and Rutka will face either Auburn’s Strecker and Tucans or LSU’s Jessie Smatt and Bryan Fisher in Sunday’s championship match. Smatt and Fisher defeated Florida State’s Laub and Herrera, 8-4, to advance to the semifinal round.
In singles play, the Tigers’ Kiernan was victorious over David Olave of Valdosta State, 6-2, 6-3, to advance to the championship match of the “A” Flight consolation bracket. He will face Central Florida’s Gabriel Strongberg in Sunday’s final.
LSU’s Nicholson and Mateljan were both defeated in the second round of the “B” Flight consolation round on Saturday. Nicholson fell to Kevin Gill of Gulf Coast College, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, while Mateljan was dropped by Diego Goya, 6-3, 7-6.
The 2000 Seminole Classic will conclude Sunday here in Tallahassee, Fla., with both the singles and doubles championship matches.
