BATON ROUGE, La. — The LSU men’s tennis team will be represented at two tournaments this weekend as the Tigers will send six players to the Southern Intercollegiate Championships at Athens, Ga., and four players to the BellSouth Mobility Classic at Lafayette, La.
In Athens, senior Ajay Ramaswami headlines a group or three Tigers in the “A” flight of the singles draw. Ramaswami, seeded-sixth, has earned a first-round bye and will face the winner of York Allen of Duke and Robert Gustaffson of Middle Tennessee State in Friday’s second round.
LSU’s junior Dan Kiernan, seeded No. 9-16 in the “A” flight, also received a first-round bye. He will face either James Moeckel of Furman or Andre V.D. Merwe of UAB on Friday. Junior Jesse Smatt, the third Tiger in the flight, meets Tomas Miho of Charleston Southern in round one.
In the “B” flight, both junior Anthony Mateljan and freshman Sebastian Rutka earned first-round byes. Mateljan squares off with the winner between Josef Clark of Florida A&M and Michael Chamberlain of Memphis. Rutka meets the victor between South Alabama’s Kosta Zinchen and Jacksonville State’s Will Wright.
Freshman Bryan Fisher will compete in the “C” flight against Lenin Mongerie of Florida A&M in round one.
The Tigers will send John Sruk, John Gray Pou, Brandon Nicholson and Jonathan Hurd to compete in Lafayette.
