BATON ROUGE — Eight LSU tennis players will represent the Tigers beginning this Friday in the Continental Airlines Cup hosted by Rice University.
Junior Dan Kiernan and senior Ajay Ramaswami will compete in the “A” flight singles. Kiernan faces Marcio Pelrone of North Carolina in round one while Ramaswami meets Nebojsa Murisic of Lamar.
In the “B” flight, junior Jesse Smatt faces Texas A&M’s Jarin Skube in the first round. Freshman Sebastian Rutka will see his first collegiate action when he meets Lamar’s Chris Chapman.
Bryan Fisher, also a freshman, will face Rice’s Vuk Rajevac in his first collegiate match. He is the only Tiger playing the “C” flight.
Three LSU players, Anthony Mateljan, Brandon Nicholson and Jonathan Hurd, will all be in the “D” flight. Mateljan meets Ramez Qamar of Rice in round one while Nicholson meets Olmane Bennanni-Smires of Rice and Hurd faces Christian Schoning of Lamar.
All eight players will also compete in doubles beginning on Friday.
