BATON ROUGE- The LSU gymnastics team improved to 4-0 on the season with a convincing 194.625-192.250 victory over Kentucky before 1,918 fans at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center Friday night.

Abbey Burns and Beth Boudreaux came up with identical 9.90s on the uneven bars, pacing the Tigers to an overpowering 49.125 on the second rotation, putting the meet out of reach at the halfway point.

“It was a great effort for us, we did some things really well tonight,” said LSU head coach D-D Breaux. “There are some things we still need to clean up and we struggled on the beam tonight, but this was a good competition heading into a tough stretch.”

The Tigers opened with a solid 48.775 in the vault behind a 9.875 from senior Stephanie Hyett and a 9.825 from Kim Descalopoulis.

After the tremendous outing on the bars, the Tigers struggled on the beam, recording a 47.825, but solid efforts from Burns with a 9.825 and Boudreaux and freshman Brooke Cazeaux with identical 9.775s.

The Tigers finished the evening with a strong flurry, recording a 48.900 on the floor behind a 9.825 from Kerry Descalopoulis and a 9.800 from sister Kim. Stacey Wegener and Boudreaux both went 9.775 on the floor, while Marina Degteva registered a 9.725.

LSU returns to action next Sunday with a trip to Athens, Ga., to face second-ranked Georgia, the beginning of a brutal three-week stretch. The Tigers return home following the Georgia meet to face No. 5 Utah, followed by No. 1 Alabama.
