Grant Smith Season 2025-26
Grant Smith joined the LSU Sports Medicine Department in August 2025 as the men’s basketball athletic trainer.
Smith spent two years with the University of New Mexico (UNM) serving as an assistant athletic trainer for the Sports Medicine Department. His most recent position was with the men’s basketball program which won the 2025 Mountain West basketball regular season. Prior to working with basketball, Smith worked with the UNM football program and served as the director of rehabilitation. Smith directly oversaw all of UNM’s injury rehabilitation and helped develop programs in consultation with UNM’s athletic performance staff.
Smith has previous experience with USA Basketball, the Green Bay Packers (2022-23), Kansas City Chiefs (2019-20) and the Minnesota Vikings (2018).
Grant Smith joined the Lobo Family in the April of 2023, and he serves as the athletic trainer for the men’s basketball program. Prior to working with basketball, Smith was with the Lobo football program and served as the director of rehabilitation for the program. He came to UNM after serving a one-year apprenticeship with the Green Bay Packers.
With the Packers, Smith oversaw inventory and emergency management, injury evaluation and corrective exercise skills.
Smith spent two years as a graduate assistant athletic trainer with Nebraska. He has a master’s degree in higher education from the University of Nebraska in 2022 and a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from the University of Missouri in 2020.
The Chanhassen, Minnesota, native is certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), having completed all requirements in May 2020.
