Amanda Norton Season 2023-24

Amanda Norton became a part of the LSU swimming and diving coaching staff late in the summer of 2001, and her first full season with the program last year was a definite success. Her skill and expertise has helped revitalize both the men’s and women’s swimming teams in just one short season. Her energy and competitive spirit has brought about a sense of both determination and learning to the Tiger practice sessions.

Norton, 27, comes to LSU with years of coaching experience on the collegiate level. She begins her first season as assistant swimming coach for the LSU swimming and diving program and is a native of Melbourne, Australia, where she graduated from Deakin University.

Most recently, Norton served as a graduate assistant women’s swimming coach at Eastern Michigan University for the past three seasons. Norton swam independently while attending Deakin, since swimming was not offered as a collegiate sport there. Norton accepted the LSU job because of the unique opportunity to coach both men and women under the leadership of head coach Jeff Cavana.

Before arriving at LSU Norton gained valuable coaching experience while leading the athletes at the University of Michigan’s Wolverine Swim Camp each of the past three summers. Norton coached under the guidance of Michigan’s men’s head coach Jon Urbanachek, a former coach for the United States Olympic team, and women’s head coach Jim Richardson.

Norton was a Multiple Age Group and Open State Champion and also a multiple medallist at the 1992 Australian Age Nationals and was a champion in the 100-meter backstroke at age 17. Swam in the 1992 Australian Olympic Trials and the 1990 and 1994 Commonwealth Games trials. Was a multiple age and open state record holder and was part of the 4X100 relay team that held the Australian medley record. Norton retired eight months before the 1996 Olympic Trials.
