Third Season at LSU
Mike Harkness joined the women’s basketball program as the director of video operations in fall 2015. He came to LSU after a four-year stint at Georgia Tech, where he was the director of video player personnel for the women’s basketball program under coach MaChelle Joseph.
Harkness is responsible for providing video for the coaches, which includes practice footage, opponent scouting video and various hype videos prior to competition. He also assists with shooting community service footage as well as creating various graphics for use in social media.
Harkness has worked 16 years in the video profession, spending 11 years at his alma mater, the University of Maryland. His most recent appointment at Maryland was the director of coaches video, a promotion he earned after a year as assistant director of coaches video. In that role with the Terps, Harkness, along with his staff of two assistants and four students, oversaw the video needs for all Maryland sports except football.
He transitioned into working with all Terrapin sports after serving an internship with the basketball video department. He worked with the women’s basketball team that won the 2006 National Championship and the 2009 ACC Tournament title.
While a student in College Park, Harkness began his career in the spring of 1999 working in the video department with the Maryland football team. During his time at Maryland, Harkness was a part of nine national championships and numerous ACC championships, and transitioned the Terrapins from an analog based video system to a fully digital video system.
The Hughesville, Md., native graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in management science and statistics with a specialization of decision and information sciences in 2003.
