Junior season (2000)
Earned the first All-American honor of his career at the 2000 NCAA Outdoor Championships, anchoring the Tigers’ short relay to a third place finish … Also anchored the Tigers to a second place finish in the short relay at the SEC Outdoor Championships in Baton Rouge … Struggled with his timing in the long jump in 2000, coming up with a best of only 23-8 1/4w at the SEC Championships, but has progressed in his training leading up to this season and is closer to his form of 1998 … Came up with a season-best time of 10.51w in the 100-meter dash at the U.S. Collegiate Series in Baton Rouge in March … During the indoor season, came up with a season -best mark of 7.01 in the 60-meter dash, while clocking a 22.33 in the 200-meter dash.
Sophomore season (1999)
In the first indoor action of his career, posted a season-best leap of 24-7 to finish second at the LSU Invitational … Won the long jump title at the Cougar Classic (23-10), while later finishing fourth in the 60 (6.99) … Indoor season was cut short by an injury at the Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg, Va. … While he was slow to recover during the early stages of the outdoor season, he came on in the end and was an integral part of the Tigers’ 4×100 meter relay, anchoring them to a fourth place finish at the SEC Championships with a time of 39.69, then winning the title at the LSU Last Ditch with a time of 40.10.
Freshman season (1998)
Battled injuries much of his freshman season, but came on strong at the end … Did not compete indoors … Posted his best result at the SEC Outdoor Championships, where he stepped it up and finished fifth with his only jump over 25 feet all season, 25-21/2 … Second best effort of the season was a jump of 24-3 at the LSU Invitational … Only competed in five meets in 1998 … After the end of the collegiate season, went on to qualify for the World Junior Championships in Annecy, France … Jumped 25-03/4 at the Jamaican Junior Championships to qualify.
Prep Career
Was the 1997 Pan American Junior Champion in the long jump.
