JUNIOR SEASON (1999-2000): Member of the Tigers fastest 800-yard freestyle relay team of the season that recorded a time of 6:39.27… Received the LSU Coaches Award, which recognizes the most hardworking and dedicated performer on the team… Competed at the Southeastern Conference Championships in the 50, 100, and 200-yard freestyle events… Placed 20th in the 200 freestyle, 31st in the 50 freestyle, and 34th in the 100 freestyle competition… Member of the SEC Mens Swimming and Diving Academic Honor Roll with a 3.308 grade point average in civil engineering… Earned his third varsity letter.
SOPHOMORE SEASON (1998-99): Qualified for the NCAA Championships on the 400 and 800-yard freestyle relay teams… Received All-American Honors in the 800-yard freestyle relay competition… Named NCAA Honorable Mention All-American in the 400 freestyle relay event… Named Second-Team All-SEC… Consolation finalist in the 200-yard freestyle at the SEC Championships… Swam a split of 44.70 while on the 400 freestyle relay team which placed fourth at the SEC Championships… Swam a split of 1:38.90 while on the 800-yard freestyle relay team which placed second at the SEC Championships… Earned his second varsity letter.
FRESHMAN SEASON (1997-98): One of five LSU freshmen to earn a spot on the SEC travel team… Qualified to compete in three individual events at the SEC Championships… Member of both the 400 and 800-yard freestyle relay teams that placed sixth and fifth respectively… Swam a time of 1:38.97 in the preliminary round of the 200-yard freestyle event to qualify for the consolation final… Went on to finish in 14th place with a time of 1:39.48… First on the team in the 100-yard freestyle event and second in the 200 freestyle competition… Earned his first varsity letter.
Prior to LSU: Four-time team Most Valuable Performer at Duncanville High School… Selected as the team captain during both his junior and senior seasons… Three-time NISCA All-American… Instrumental in Duncanville High’s four district titles… Four-year swimming letterman.
Personal: Born September 20, 1978… Son of Morris and Evelyn Tanner… Majoring in Civil Engineering.
