LSU Soccer Comes up Short Against FGCU, 3-2

BATON ROUGE, La. – The LSU Soccer team (1-3-0) fell to FGCU (2-1-1) by a score of 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at the LSU Soccer Stadium.

Senior Ava Galligan got the Tigers on the board early with a goal in the second minute. The forward received a cross into the box from Ryann Denecour and slotted it past the Eagle goalkeeper into the top right corner of the net to give the Tigers an early lead.

The Eagles evened the score at one with a goal from Kaitlin Gabelman in the 20th minute. They later took the lead in the 38th minute on a goal from Ava Russell to head into halftime up 2-1.

FGCU extended the lead in the 83rd minute after being awarded a penalty kick for a Tiger handball in the box. Sarah Greiner converted on the kick, knocking the ball into the top right corner.

The Tigers got one back in the 85th minute when freshman Alexia Hansen struck the ball from outside the box off the outstretched goalkeeper’s hand and into the back of the net to cut the lead in half.
