Women’s Tennis Pens Signature of Florentine Dekkers

BATON ROUGE, La. – Florentine Dekkers, a native of Ammerzoden, Netherlands, has signed on with the LSU women’s tennis team after transferring from Kansas State, head coach Taylor Fogleman announced on Wednesday.

“Chris (Simpson) and I are incredibly excited and humble to welcome Flo to LSU,” Fogleman said. “She is an awesome young lady with an immense amount of ability. As fantastic of a tennis player as she is, she is an even better person with a supportive family behind her. She’s going to accomplish some amazing things on the court, in the classroom and in the community these next few years. We can’t wait to get started with her in August!”

Dekkers is calling Baton Rouge after two seasons of competition at Kansas State. In that time, she picked up 18 wins in singles matches and 15 in doubles. She played most of her singles matches at the No. 1 spot for the Wildcats, picking up two ranked wins just this past season. In doubles, she played most of her matches at the No. 2 spot but has experience across all three spots with a variety of partners.

Outside of her action in NCAA matches, Dekkers also competed in a few pro tournaments in 2022. She advanced to the singles main draw through qualifying stages twice: first at the W15 Alkmaar in June and then at the W15 Hilton Head in September.

Prior to her time at Kansas State, Dekkers’ UTR rose as high as 10.34 with strong play in local tournaments in the Netherlands as well as ITF junior tournaments. 2019 was a strong year for her in junior tournaments as she claimed the J5 singles and doubles title in Dijon, a J5 doubles title in Limassol and the J4 doubles crown in Almere.

She has also enjoyed academic success thus far in her collegiate career, earning a spot on the 2021-22 Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team and ITA Scholar Athlete honors in 2022.

Dekkers joins graduate transfer Aran Teixidó Garcia of Memphis and blue-chip Kinaa Graham as signings in the 2022-23 class. The trio will join up with the team in August ahead of the 2023-24 season.
