No. 11 Women’s Tennis Sweeps Arkansas 4-0

Baton Rouge, La. – The No. 11 LSU Women’s Tennis team picked up its sixth sweep of the season on Thursday night as they defeated the Arkansas Razorbacks, 4-0, at the LSU Tennis Complex.

With the win, LSU improves to 13-4 overall and 8-4 in SEC play, while Arkansas falls to 10-8 overall and 5-7 in conference play.

Selling Points
“We’re extremely proud of this team,” co-head coach Michael Sell said. “This is the best team performance collectively from each position. We played our best doubles point of the year and followed that with tremendous energy and tennis in singles play. Nina was tough to finish her match despite picking up a knock and we were in strong spots in the courts that went unfinished. We’ll enjoy this win tonight before turning our focus to Missouri and our goal of sending off our seniors on a high note.”

Doubles Results

LSU got off to a hot start in doubles, with the No. 73 duo of seniors Taylor Bridges and Paris Corley defeating Lauren Alter and Indianna Spink by a score of 6-1 at the No. 2 doubles spot.

The Tigers clinched the doubles point moments later with a win at the No. 3. Junior Anna Loughlan and sophomore Maggie Cubitt put in a dominant display and were rewarded with a 6-2 win over Kelly Keller and Laura Rijkers.

Singles Results

No. 40 Corley struck first for the Tigers at the No. 3 singles, defeating Tatum Rice in straight sets. Corley’s strong start to the match saw her take the first set 6-2 before going on to defeat Rice by a score of 6-3 in the second set. The win takes Corley’s total to 16 in the 2020-21 season, a team-high.

Freshman Samantha Buyckx broke into double digit singles wins with her 10th of the season by defeating Alter at the No. 6 in a straight set contest. Buyckx controlled the tempo of the match, winning the first set by a 6-2 scoreline before repeating the score in the second set and extending LSU’s lead to 3-0 on the night.

The sweep was clinched at the No. 5, where sophomore Nina Geissler claimed her team-high ninth singles win of the dual season with a straight set victory over Rijkers. The two contested an even first set, with Geissler able to pull away and narrowly win the first set 6-4. Geissler’s momentum carried over into the second set, where she won all but one game in a 6-1 win to give LSU’s its 13th win of the year.
