Twelve Gymnasts Named WCGA Scholastic All-Americans

BATON ROUGE – Twelve LSU gymnasts have been recognized by the Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) as Scholastic All-Americans, the organization announced Wednesday.

Sierra Ballard, Chase Brock, Haleigh Bryant, Rebecca D’Antonio, Christina Desiderio, Olivia Dunne, Sami Durante, Olivia Gunter, Kiya Johnson, Maddie Rau, Kamryn Ryan and Alyona Shchennikova were honored after earning a 3.5 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale for the 2020-21 year.

Gunter finished her career as a four-time Scholastic All-American and LSU graduate. Desiderio and Durante also earned their degrees in May 2021 and will return to compete for the Tigers in 2021. Bryant, Dunne, Johnson and Shchennikova complimented their work in the classroom this season by also being named All-Americans in competition.

In total, LSU gymnasts have combined to earn 173 Scholastic All-America honors since 1991.
