Three LSU Representatives Set to Compete at U.S. Amateur

Baton Rouge, La.  – LSU golfers Trey Winstead, Garrett Barber, and Cohen Trolio will begin play at the 121st U.S. Amateur on Monday morning. All three will be on LSU’s 2021-22 roster; Winstead is a fifth-year senior, Barber is a fourth-year senior, and Trolio is an incoming freshman.

The tournament will be held in Pennsylvania at the Oakmont Country Club (Oakmont, Pa.) and Longue Vue Club (Verona, Pa.). Thirty-six holes – 18 Monday, 18 Tuesday – of stroke play will be played before the top 64 competitors advance to match play beginning on Wednesday. All matches will be held at Oakmont CC, while every player will play Oakmont CC and Longue Vue Club for stroke play.

Both courses will play as a par 70, but Oakmont will cover 7,254 yards and Longue Vue will pay at a distance of 6,647 yards. Winstead and Trolio both received exemptions into the championship. Winstead earned an exemption due to his World Amateur Golf Ranking of 40, and Trolio’s exemption is thanks to his 2021 U.S. Junior Amateur runner-up finish a few weeks back. Barber qualified his way in thanks to winning the Annandale Golf Club qualifying tournament in Madison, Mississippi. Barber is ranked No. 77 in the WAGR, and Trolio checks in at the 172nd spot.
