BATON ROUGE – The LSU Beach Volleyball team moved back into the No. 3 spot of the AVCA Poll on Tuesday as the Tigers head into their final weekend of regular season competition in Gulf Shores at the FSU Invitational.
LSU has been inside the AVCA Top-3 in 12 of the past 13 polls. The Tigers dropped to No. 4 last week, but leapfrogged Florida State this week after the Seminoles dropped a match against No. 15 Florida International over the weekend.
LSU and FSU will meet in Gulf Shores this weekend for the third time this season. The Seminoles took the first two matchups, 4-1 in Baton Rouge and 3-2 in Gulf Shores. The Tigers were points away from taking the matchup in Gulf Shores on March 13, but a late rally by FSU on Court 3 gave the Seminoles the win.
UCLA retained the top spot of the poll and USC remained at No. 2. LSU, FSU, UCLA and USC have been the only four teams inside the top-four throughout the entire season.
This is the final weekend of the regular season with the CCSA Championship scheduled for next weekend in Huntsville, Alabama, another spot LSU may likely face FSU once more. The NCAA Championship is scheduled for May 7-9 in Gulf Shores where the nation’s top eight teams are invited to compete.
