LSU And Lindblad In Lead At IJGA Invitational

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – The No. 18 LSU women’s golf team jumped into first place through two and a half rounds of the IJGA Collegiate Invitational, while Tiger rookie Ingrid Lindblad has a hold on first place on the player’s leaderboard. The tournament wraps up with the final nine holes on Tuesday morning at 8:15 a.m. CT at the Guadalajara Country Club.

Through 45 holes, the Tigers hold a nine-stroke lead over second-place South Carolina after starting the day with a 4-under 284 in Round 2 and an 8-under start over the first nine holes of Round 3.

“I’m very proud of the way we played our second round, shooting 4-under,” said second-year head coach Garrett Runion. “Then to back it up with an even better score of 8-under over the first nine holes of the third round puts us in great position heading into the last nine holes of the tournament.”

Lindblad shot a 2-under 70 in the second round and is one of four Tigers shooting 2-under to start the third round. She has a three-stroke lead over Amanda Doherty of Florida State for a total of 10-under with nine holes to go.

Three Tigers are currently tied for 19th place at 1-over and all shooting 2-under through the first half of Round 3. Sophomore Alden Wallace shot a season-low, 4-under 68 in the second round, while freshman Latanna Stone shot 1-over 73. Junior Kendall Griffin is also at 1-over for the tournament and shot a 3-over 75 in the second round. Junior Latanna Stone added a team scoring mark of 1-over 73 in the second round.

“Alden bounced back in a big way, shooting 6-under over 27 holes,” said Runion. “She played great all day and we’re very proud of her play.

“It was a team effort with everybody contributing and now we have a great opportunity tomorrow to start our Spring season and give us a lot of confidence the rest of the year.”

LSU is paired up with Arizona State and South Carolina. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.

Tournament Notes

* In the first round, Lindblad became the first Tiger to shoot 6-under or lower since Caroline Nistrup shot a 6-under 66 in the first round of The Alamo Invitational on October 26, 2014. The round ranks fourth on the LSU all-time list, tying with Nistrup, Megan McChrystal (October 2010), and twice with Austin Ernst’s two rounds in the 2011 NCAA Championship tournament.
