Five LSU Teams Receive Perfect Graduation Success Rates

BATON ROUGE – LSU’s success in the classroom continues for its student-athletes as the university remained near historic levels with an overall score of 89 in the most recent Graduation Success Rate released by the NCAA on Tuesday.

It’s the third straight year LSU student-athletes posted a score of 89 percent in the GSR, which is one point shy of the school’s all-time high of 90 set in 2017.

LSU is one of only five schools in the Southeastern Conference to score an 89 or higher each of the past four years. LSU is joined by Vanderbilt, Missouri, Alabama and South Carolina as the only schools to reach the at least the 89 score mark each year since 2017-18.

“Our continued success does not happen alone, it is based on our partnerships that extend beyond the walls of the academic center with the Office of Academic Affairs, athletics, schools and colleges, and most of all our student-athletes who are competing not only to win championships but to win in the classroom as well,” Walt Holliday, Executive Director of the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes said.

Five sports led LSU with a perfect score of 100 – men’s swimming and diving, men’s tennis, women’s soccer, women’s golf, and volleyball.

In addition to LSU’s five perfect scores, the school produced scores of 90 or better in seven other sports – women’s swimming and diving (96), women’s track and field (96), baseball (94), softball (93), gymnastics (92), women’s basketball (92), and men’s golf (90).

In 2019-20, LSU has seen 95 of its student-athletes graduate so far which runs its two-year total to 218. A year ago in 2018-19, a school-record 123 student-athletes graduated from the university.

Combined with its recent graduation numbers and the school’s GSR achievements, LSU continues to prove that the academic support programs in place are putting student-athletes on the right track for continued success once their college careers have ended.

The NCAA developed the Graduation Success Rate to more accurately assess the academic success of student-athletes.
