Final Results

“I was really pleased with how we raced today” said LSU cross country coach Houston Franks regarding the team’s performance.  “This was a really good meet with some quality teams from the South Central region.  Both the men’s and women’s teams are getting better every meet and have done a really good job of staying focused in some difficult times.  We had more personal bests than I could even list today, and the team ran with more confidence and aggressiveness than I have seen.  We will try to have a couple of good weeks of training and get ready for the SEC Championships.  The conference as always will be stacked with great teams top to bottom and we look forward to the challenge

The men’s team got the morning started with the 8k run where they placed second overall with a team score of 66 points.  Davis Bove led the way for the Tigers as he won the bronze medal with a time of 23:59.8.  Bove’s third place finish is the highest he’s placed in his collegiate career.  Eric Coston was the second LSU runner to cross the finish line in the 8k as he placed eighth with a time of 24:12.2.  Coston has been the second LSU finisher in all three competitions this season.  Sophomore Jackson Martingayle registered his best finish of the season as he placed 16th with a time of 24:41.3 to contribute towards the Tiger’s second place finish.  Rounding out the final two scorers on the men’s side were Adam Wise (24:54.8) and Will Dart (25:01.3) who placed 23rd and 25th, respectively.  Freshman Will Dart continues to make an immediate impact for the Tigers as he has scored in each of his first three collegiate meets.

The women’s squad followed the men’s second place finish with a second place finish of their own in the 6k race.  Like Bove, Julia Palin earned the bronze medal for her third place time of 20:44.9.  The standout redshirt sophomore has placed third in each of the past two meets.  Following Palin was Katy-Ann McDonald who ran a time of 20:51.3 to place fourth, registering a top five finish in consecutive meets.  The third Tiger to cross the finish line was Alicia Stamey as she placed seventh with a time of 21:07.8.  Stamey recorded a personal best time in the 6k, beating out her previous top time of 21:12.60.   Freshman Shelby Spoor added another scoring performance with her time of 21:37.0 to place 16th.  The fifth and final scorer for the women’s team was freshman Ashley LaJocies who ran a time of 22:01.9 to earn her first collegiate scoring performance and placed 22nd overall.

The Arturo Barrios Invitational was the third and final regular season meet for the Tigers as they will host the SEC Championships at the University Club on Friday, October 30.  For the full LSU cross country schedule visit lsusports.net.
