Harrison Named to Bowerman Watch List

Baton Rouge, LA. – LSU junior track and field athlete JuVaughn Harrison was named to the Bowerman Watch List (February edition) by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Thursday afternoon.

Harrison has gotten off to an impressive start this season as he has finished in the top five in each of the events he has competed in this season. The reigning NCAA champion in the outdoor high and long jump has been named to the Bowerman Watch List for the second consecutive month.

Harrison’s best finish of the season came in the high jump competition at the Corky Classic (January 18).  His clearance of 7′ 5″ (2.26 meters) was the top mark of the day, giving him a first place finish.  Harrison’s performance is tied for No. 3 in the NCAA, and the third-best clearance of his indoor career.

The Huntsville, Alabama native made his season debut at the Purple Tiger Invitational where finished in second place in the long jump with a leap of 25′ 0.5″ (7.63m).  Harrison would eventually improve upon his season debut jump with a season best distance of 25′ 3.25″ (7.70m), finishing in third place at the Dr. MLK Jr. Invitational. He followed up that performance with another top five finish in the long jump at the Razorback Invitational.  Harrison’s jump of 25′ 1.75″ (7.66m) was the fourth best mark of the day in Arkansas.

Harrison is used to earning accolades as he is a two-time NCAA champion, two-time SEC champion, and he was a 2019 semifinalist for The Bowerman. Last year he became the first athlete to sweep the outdoor high jump and long jump national titles in NCAA history.

LSU is the only school in the country to have both a male and female athlete to be named to the February edition of The Bowerman Watch List. The Bowerman committee will release six more watch lists throughout the 2020 collegiate track and field season before semifinalists are announced in June following the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
