BATON ROUGE – The LSU Athletic Department and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosted a holiday food drive over the last week and a half. The food drive benefits the LSU Food Pantry which provides supplemental food to LSU students in need.
“Collecting food for the LSU Food Pantry was so meaningful for us as student-athletes,” said LSU football player and SAAC President Blake Ferguson. “It gave us a chance to give back to our fellow LSU classmates who so passionately support our team week-in and week-out, inspiring us to perform at our best.
“It is a special feeling for us to know that we are making a difference for those in need right here in our LSU student body.”
Food insecurity is a prevalent issue on college campuses nationwide that goes largely unaddressed. Regardless of circumstances, no student should have to choose between food and other basic needs. The Food Pantry exists to help ease that choice and provide support.
“Collecting food for the LSU Food Pantry was such an amazing experience,” said LSU volleyball player Milan Stokes. “Particularly catching a visible glimpse of the unity and effort that the LSU staff and student body displays in order to let one another know that they are loved and cared for.
“The way our campus and our community supports one another is incredible, and I truly believe there is nothing like it.”
