Volleyball Falls at No. 11 Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The LSU volleyball team fell to No. 11 Florida Friday evening in Exactech Arena by scores of 20-25, 19-25, 18-25. The Tigers are now 13-11 on the year and 7-7 in the SEC. Florida improves to 21-3 overall and 12-1 in the league.

Taylor Bannister led the Tigers with 13 kills, while Karli Rose finished with 23 assists. Raigen Cianciulli led the back row with eight digs. The Tigers hit .244 for the match with Bannister hitting .407. Whitney Foreman hit .417 with five kills on 12 attempts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • LSU got out to a 3-1 lead after a kill and ace by Bannister. The Gators went on a 3-0 run to tie the set up and take an 8-6 lead. Two errors by the Gators brought the Tigers within two, but Florida went on a 4-0 run to force the Tigers to their first timeout of the set.
  • The Tigers used their second timeout of the set to regroup as Florida took a 23-14 lead. Out of the timeout, the Tigers went on a 6-1 run, but the Gators closed out the set, 25-20.
  • In the first set, the Tigers hit .227 in the first set with Bannister leading the way with four kills. Hill finished with two.
  • In the second set, the Tigers got out to 4-1 lead after a Bannister kill and an ace. Florida once again worked its way back, going on a 5-0 run to take a 6-4 lead. LSU trailed the Gators, 15-9, at the media timeout.
  • The Tigers tried to work their way back but Florida pushed to a 22-15 lead, forcing the Tigers to a timeout. Back-to-back kills by Bannister brought the Tigers within four, 23-19, forcing the Gators to a timeout. Florida came out of the timeout and took the set, 25-19. Bannister finished the second set with six kills, while the team hit. 219.
  • Florida started off the third set with a 8-5 lead. The Gators used a 7-1 run to push to a 15-6 lead at media timeout. The Tigers worked their way back to come within five and forcing Florida to a timeout at 19-14.
  • A 5-0 run by the Tigers put them within three, 19-16, but Florida put together back-to-back points to go up 21-16 and forcing the Tigers to a timeout. Florida finished the match on back-to-back points to give the Gators a final set score of 25-18.
