Duo Signs With LSU Women’s Golf

BATON ROUGE, La. — LSU women’s golf head coach Garrett Runion has announced the signing of Carla Tejedo Mulet and Jessica Bailey to a National Letters of Intent. Both student-athletes will join the team in Fall of 2020.

“We are very excited with the addition of Carla and Jessica to our 2020-21 roster,” said Runion. “Both ladies have a lot of international experience on big stages and look forward to them contributing right away.”

Tejedo Mulet will be a freshman for the Tigers in 2020-21. The native of Castellon de la Plana, Spain, is currently ranked 124 in the world in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and a three-year member of the Spanish National Golf Team.

In 2019, Tejedo Mulet most recently finished 19th in the World Junior Girls Championship. She posted seven Top-6 finishes in international competition, including a win at the Copa Andalucia to start 2019. At the 2019 British Girls Amateur Championship, she finished fifth in stroke play and advanced to the quarterfinals of match play. Tejedo Mulet also finished sixth at the Toyota Junior World Cup in Japan and helped lead Team Spain to a second-place finish at the European Girls Team Championship.

Tejedo Mulet also won the Grand Prix des Landes in 2018 while also winning national tournaments in 2017 and 2018 with a runner-up finish in 2019. She attends Agora Lledo International School.

Bailey is wrapping up her second season at Daytona State College, following a rookie season that saw her earn 2019 NJCAA Second Team All-America honors. The native of Leicester, England is the No. 6 ranked junior college player in the nation. As a freshman in 2018-19, Bailey was the top DSC scorer in five of the seven Division I tournaments she played in, including a fourth-place finish at the 2019 Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic. Bailey capped her rookie season at Daytona with an eighth-place finish at the NJCAA National Championship tournament.

In international play, Bailey finished fifth in the 2018 English Women’s Open Match Play tournament and 19th at the 2018 English Women’s Amateur Championship. She attended De Lis College for secondary school.

“With seven of our eight current players returning next year, I expect our practices to be very competitive as our players push each other and raise the level of play for everyone,” continued Runion. “The future is bright for LSU women’s golf.”
