BATON ROUGE – LSU softball assistant coach Howard Dobson has been named as an assistant coach for the 2020 USA Softball Women’s National Team (WNT), the organization announced Thursday afternoon.
Dobson is joined by other assistant coaches in Laura Berg (Corvallis, Ore./Head Coach at Oregon State), Tairia Flowers (Northridge, Calif./Head Coach at CSUN) and Heather Tarr (Redmond, Wash./Head Coach at Washington).
Selected from the USA Softball WNT Coaching Pool, they will join Head Coach Ken Eriksen (Tampa, Fla./Head Coach at South Florida) in leading the WNT next July in the 2020 Games in Tokyo, Japan where the U.S. will look to reclaim the Gold Medal.
“I am tremendously honored and humbled to be apart of the 2020 USA Olympic coaching staff,” said Dobson. “I look forward to helping the athletes achieve their goal of returning the Gold medal back to where it belongs! I am very appreciative of the sacrifices my family, Coach Beth Torina and staff have made to allow me to pursue this endeavor.
“Thank you to the selection committee for their time and effort they have put in of making this dream a reality. I look forward to working with Coach Ken Eriksen and competing to be the best in the world!”
Dobson is making his ninth appearance as an Assistant Coach for the WNT program after serving on the coaching staff since 2012. In his tenure with USA Softball, Dobson has contributed to two WBSC World Championship Gold Medal finishes in addition to a Gold Medal at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.
