Newport Beach, Calif. – LSU women’s tennis junior Taylor Bridges defeated her opponent in straight sets to advance to the second round of the consolation bracket at the 2019 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships on Thursday, October 7, at the Newport Beach Tennis Club in Newport Beach, California.
Day 1 Results
Senior Paris Corley faced Duke’s Chloe Beck in the first round of the singles draw. Beck was dominant in the first set, winning 6-1 to take the match lead. Corley took the early lead in the second set, with the two players trading games back and forth until it was 6-6. The tiebreaker saw Corley flex her strength and coast to a 7-1 win to force a third set. The third set was narrow, but Beck was able to hold her ground and win 7-5 to advance to the next round.
Bridges was matched against No. 4-ranked Alexa Graham from North Carolina in her first round match up. Graham began the match strongly, jumping to an early lead and eventually taking the first set 6-2. Not losing momentum, Graham only dropped one game in the second set as she won 6-1 and advanced.
Bridges and Corley teamed together in the doubles draw and faced Old Dominion’s Yulia Starodubsteva and Alesya Wakubovich. The ODU pair was dominant in the first set, winning 6-1. The second set saw Starodubsteva and Wakubovich carry momentum from the first on their way to a 6-3 win and advanced.
Day 2 Results
Bridges faced No. 48 Holly Hutchinson from Old Dominion in the first round of the consolation draw. The first set was a dominant showing from Bridges, who coasted to a 6-1 win. The second set was a similar story, with Bridges winning 6-2 and advancing to the second round.
Up Next
Bridges will compete in the next round of the consolation draw tomorrow, November 8. In Baton Rouge, LSU will begin the first day of the Tiger Fall Classic at 3 p.m. at the LSU Tennis Complex.
