Men’s Tennis Fall Season Concludes Day Two in ITA Fall Nationals

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.— Joey Thomas and Daniel Moreno’s win streak ends at five as they were defeated by Baylor Thursday night at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in Newport Beach, California.

LSU was coming off an impressive win against Iowa on Wednesday, winning 6-4, 6-4. The Baylor duo also had a successful round of 32, upsetting the No. 4 ITA ranked duo out of Florida 6-4, 6-2.

Baylor started off the night rolling, making it 0-2 in the Bears favor. The duo’s traded the next four games until Baylor was up 2-4. LSU wasn’t able to win a game after that, dropping the first set 2-6. The second set was evenly matched as the teams, again, traded the first few sets until it was 2-3 Baylor. The Bears broke the trade-off winning the next game, but traded the next three, making it 4-5. Baylor finished off the match in the next set, defeating LSU 2-6, 4-6.

LSU struggled on second serve points, winning only 31% to Baylor’s 63%. The Tigers were 0/7 on break points, while Baylor was 3/4.

The Oracle ITA National Fall Championships concludes the men’s tennis team’s Fall season. They’ll have a break before the start the Spring season on January 11th, where they’ll host Alcorn State in a double header.
