Bridges, Corley to Compete at ITA Fall Championships

Newport Beach, Calif. – Senior Paris Corley and Junior Taylor Bridges will represent the LSU women’s tennis team at the 2019 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships beginning on Wednesday, November 6, at the Newport Beach Tennis Club in Newport Beach, California.

Selling Points

“I’m excited for Paris and Taylor to be here in singles and doubles,” co-head coach Julia Sell said. “It is a testament to all the hard work they put in on a daily basis and they are looking forward to competing again tomorrow.”

Tournament Format

The Oracle ITA National Fall Championships features 64 of the nation’s top collegiate singles players and 32 doubles teams. A total of 40 women earned automatic qualification into the singles draw based on their performance in a series of prior fall events. Additionally, one Oracle Wild Card, two ITA Wild Cards and 21 at-large received entries into the championships. The doubles championships provided 19 automatic qualifiers, with one Oracle Wild Card, two ITA Wild Cards and 10 at-large selections completing the field.

Tiger Tidbits

Bridges and Corley will both compete in the singles draw after earning automatic qualification due to being finalists in the singles bracket at the 2019 ITA Women’s Southern Regionals. The two Tigers maneuvered their way through the tournament and into the final, where Bridges emerged victorious 6-3, 6-0. The two will also team together in the doubles draw, having earned a wild card selection.

Corley has enjoyed a successful fall, leading the Tigers with an 11-3 singles record. Notably, she has notched three ranked wins in straight sets, including victories over No. 13 Marta Gonzalez from Georgia and No. 21 Oleksandra Korashvili from Oklahoma.

Bridges boasts a 7-2 singles record, and is on a six game win streak after defeating Corley in the finals of the ITA Women’s Southern Regionals.

In doubles, Bridges and Corley have a 4-2 record together this season, winning two matches at both the ITA All-American Championships and ITA Women’s Southern Regionals.
