BATON ROUGE – LSU’s Niamh Robinson and Aimee Wilson have been named SEC Women’s Freshman of the Week and Women’s Diver of the Week, respectively, announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Robinson swept the breaststroke events this past Saturday against SMU with times of 1:03.05 in the 100-Yard and 2:13.96 in the 200-Yard. Her performance in the 200-Yard propelled her to fifth all time in LSU history in the event, and was also the 30th fastest time in the nation this year (ninth fastest by a freshman).
“I am very happy for Niamh to get the nod from the SEC based off her racing this weekend,” said LSU head swim coach Dave Geyer. “She is really on a great track with progression and hopefully this is just the start of things this season for her.”
Wilson was a force on the boards this weekend against SMU as the reigning SEC Female Co-Freshman of the Year scored a 344.85 on the One-Meter Springboard to set a new season best and win the event by over 58 points. Wilson also took home the silver on three-meter with a score of 274.10.
“What a great honor for Aimee,” said LSU head diving coach Doug Shaffer. “Her training and development at this early part of the year has been spot on. She is miles ahead of a year ago and I’m excited to watch her as we move forward.”
