No. 19 Women’s Golf Fourth Top 3 Finish of the Fall

SAN JOSE Del CABO, Mexico – The No. 19 LSU women’s golf team earned its fourth Top-3 finish of the Fall season as the Tigers finished in second place at the Battle at the Beach in San José Del Cabo, Mexico.

The Tigers shot 5-under 283 in the final round, ending up even for the tournament. It was LSU’s sixth round this season of par or under. Freshmen Latanna Stone and Ingrid Lindblad picked up Top-5 finishes in the individual standings.

“This was a great way to end the Fall season,” said second-year head coach Garrett Runion. “We got better every round and bring home a lot of positives. Today’s finish is a bit of a bittersweet feeling because we played well enough to win the tournament, but ran into a historic low round by one of the Ole Miss players. Nothing you can do but tip your cap to them.”

Stone finished the tournament in a tie for second place after shooting a 3-under 69 to finish the tournament at 7-under 209. Lindblad ended up tied for fifth at 5-under 211 when she shot her low round of the tournament on Sunday with a 5-under 67.

Junior Kendall Griffin posted even par on Sunday to finish third on the squad, while sophomore Presley Baggett provided the fourth team score of the round at 3-over 75. Both players finished in the top 40 in the individual standings.

LSU was fourth in the final round in Par 4 scoring with a 4.03 average and tied for third in birdies with 21.

For the tournament, LSU posted the lowest Par 5 scoring average at 4.87 strokes, tied for fourth in Par 4 scoring and tied for fifth in Par 3 scoring. The Tigers were tied for fourth with 159 pars, fourth with 47 birdies and tied for first with three eagles.

“Not only did we have a lot of positives in this tournament, but during the whole Fall” continued Runion. “We continued to get better as the semester went on with some really low scoring averages led by Ingrid in the top three in the SEC. We will leave this tournament with a lot of confidence heading into the breaks. Our plan is to use this time to focus on school work and rest before getting after it again in the weight room and on the course.”

LSU returns to competition February 16-18 at the Guadalajara International Invitational in Mexico, hosted by Virginia.
