HUNTSVILLE, Ala.– For the second straight weekend the LSU Beach Volleyball team is heading home with a victory, winning the Rally Volleyball Competition on Saturday at the John Hunt Beach Volleyball Complex.
“Overall it was a good outing,” said head coach Russell Brock. “It’s always a great test to play other teams, and even more fun to come out on top at the end of the day.”
LSU competed against pairs from South Carolina, Georgia State and UAB.
“Today started out really cold, so once again a great opportunity to play in some challenging conditions that we may face in the early spring,” said Brock. “I was really proud about how we came out and embraced the chance to play and get better even in the cold temperatures.”
The format was set up where each pair played four two-set matches against pairs from the other schools. Not all schools had the same amount of pairs represented in Gulf Shores meaning the winner was determined by set winning-percentage.
LSU won 77.3-percent of its sets throughout the day. Georgia State won 55.4-percent and South Carolina finished in third-place winning 31.2-percent of its sets.
The Tigers will be back in action for the final time this fall next weekend. On Saturday, November 8, LSU will compete at Tulane (White Sands Beach Volleyball in Elmwood, Louisiana) before it finishes the fall on Sunday with a home competition at LSU Beach Volleyball Stadium.
“Today was another positive step in our development so far this fall,” Brock added. “We are looking forward to finishing up our fall competition segment next weekend as we compete back to back days for the first time this year.”
