Tigers Fall at South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The LSU volleyball team fell in three sets on Friday evening to South Carolina by scores of 19-25, 20-25, 22-25. The Tigers are now 10-10 on the year and 4-6 in the SEC. South Carolina improves to 14-8 overall and 6-4 in the league.

Junior Taylor Bannister led the Tigers with 11 kills, while freshman Allee Morris finished with 10 kills. Freshman Karli Rose led the team with 38 assists and Raigen Cianciull led the back row with 14 digs.

The Tigers return to Baton Rouge to face Mississippi State on Sunday at 1 p.m. inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The match will stream live on SEC Network+ and be available via live stats. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • South Carolina got out to an early 8-3 lead after a 5-1 run. The Tigers tried to work their way back as they came with three, but the Gamecocks went on a 5-2 run to take a 18-12 lead, forcing the Tigers to a timeout.
  • The Gamecocks continued on a 6-1 run to take a 21-13 lead, forcing the Tigers to use their second timeout of the set. The Tigers held of the Gamecocks on three-straight set points, but South Carolina claimed the first set, 25-17.
  • Taylor Bannister led the Tigers with seven kills in the first set. As a team, the Tigers hit .385 but South Carolina hit .524.
  • The second set started out even as the two teams traded points. South Carolina started to pull away as the Gamecocks led 8-5, but Whitney Foreman answered with a kill to come within two, 8-6.
  • The Tigers used a timeout to try and get in system as South Carolina took a 13-9 lead. An ace from Leigh Maher tied the set up at 16-16, forcing the Gamecocks to their first timeout of the match.
  • LSU took a second timeout as the Gamecocks scored back-to-back points to lead, 21-18. The Tigers held off South Carolina for one set point but the Gamecocks took a 2-0 lead with a 25-20 second set win.
  • The Tigers hit .267 in the second set with Samarah Hill picking up four kills. South Carolina hit .390 in the second set.
  • The Tigers took their first lead in the set, leading 5-4 after a big block by Hill and Foreman. A kill from Milan Stokes put the Tigers up 9-7, forcing the Gamecocks to us their first timeout of the set.
  • South Carolina came back and claimed the lead, forcing the Tigers to a timeout with a 17-14 lead. The Gamecocks pushed to a 19-15 lead but the Tigers went on a three-point swing to come within one, 20-19. All three points coming off a two kills by Allee Morris and a kill by Bannister.
  • The two teams went back and forth, but South Carolina ended up taking the set 25-22 and the match in three sets.
