No. 19 Women’s Golf In Lead After Round One of Battle at the Beach

SAN JOSE Del CABO, Mexico – The LSU women’s golf team holds the top spot in the Battle at the Beach in San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico after shooting a 5-over 293 on the first day of action.

“Paradise did not look like paradise this morning with the rain and swirling winds we had to start the round,” said second-year head coach Garrett Runion. “We started on some difficult holes and didn’t get off to a great start. The weather passed and I was proud of the way all five players held their composure and rallied.”

Freshman Ingrid Lindblad led the charge for LSU, shooting a 4-under round of 68 on day one. After starting play on Hole 7 in the shotgun start, Lindblad picked up an eagle on the Par 5 first. She then birdied the Par 4 third in route to a 2-under front nine. Lindblad shot two birdies and seven pars on the back nine to put her in the individual lead.

Freshman Latanna Stone also shot an eagle on the first, then followed with birdies on three of the next four holes in route to a 4-under 32, after starting on Hole 7. Stone currently sits in a tie for 14th place after finishing the with a 1-over round of 73.

“Latanna was the one who really turned her day around, playing her last seven holes at 4-under,” said Runion. “She is a big reason that we have the team lead. It didn’t surprise me that Ingrid played well. She loves the wind and feels like she has a big advantage when it blows. We are definitely eager to play again tomorrow and improve our score.”

Presley Baggett, Alden Wallace, and Kendall Griffin round out the leaderboard for the Tigers on day one. Baggett sits in a tie for 22nd after shooting a 3-under round of 75. Wallace finds herself tied for 43rd after one day of competition with a score of 5-over. Griffin sits in a tie for 55th after shooting a 6-over round of 78.

LSU finished the day with the best average score on the Par 5’s with a score of 4.72. The Tigers sit fourth in total number of birdies with 14 and hold the top spot in eagle putts with two.

LSU’s second round will begin on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. CT from holes 1-5, paired with Texas A&M, Vanderbilt and host TCU.
