Oxford, Miss. – The LSU soccer team dropped its road contest on Sunday to Ole Miss by a final score of 4-0 at Ole Miss Soccer Stadium. LSU is now 2-12-3 (0-7-2 SEC) on the year; Ole Miss is 9-5-3 (3-3-3 SEC) on the season.
The Rebels did all of their scoring in the first half with four goals. Madison Smith (5th minute), Mo O’Connor (13th minute), Channing Foster (23rd minute) and Haleigh Stackpole (35th minute) did the scoring for Ole Miss. Emma Grace Goldman made seven saves in the first 45 minutes of play to bring her season total to 102 saves; the 102 saves are the fifth most for an LSU goalkeeper in single season history. Sydney Lau made her fourth appearance of the season in net for the Tigers playing the final 45 minutes of the game. She made two saves in a scoreless second half.
LSU had a couple chances for goals in both halves. In the 22nd minute, Marlena Cutura hit a bombing ball down the right side of the pitch to Shannon Cooke, who immediately ground crossed it into the six. Her ground cross was just out of the reach of a streaking Meghan Johnson. Seven minutes later Cooke nearly had her first goal of the season with an attempt from 30 yards out. She sensed the keeper was off her line and sent in a curling shot that beat the keeper, but ricocheted off the crossbar.
In the second half, Cutura, once again, played a perfect ball into the box for Maddie Moreau. Moreau collected it and sent an air cross to the far post that was just outside of Johnson’s reach. LSU tallied four shots on goal during the match with two coming from Moreau and one apiece from Cooke and Johnson.
