STARKVILLE, Miss. — The No. 23 LSU softball team placed Kirsten Shortridge, Juliana Santos, Cody Trahan and Jazz Jackson on the 2009 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-South Region First Team Thursday as announced by the governing body of collegiate softball.
Shortridge, an All-SEC First-Team pick, spearheads the LSU offense racking up 75 hits on a .429 batting average. Her .429 batting average is second over a single season in program history. The Texas native also has tallied 25 multi-hit games and strung together 12.1 consecutive scoreless innings over her last four appearances in the circle.
Santos adds to her All-SEC Freshman accolades after hitting .279 with four homers and 26 RBIs after starting 48 of the team’s 49 games at shortstop. She knocked home 20 of her 26 RBIs and registered five of her seven multi-RBI games against SEC opponents.
Trahan emerged with an 11-5 record and a 2.17 ERA recording eight of her 11 wins against SEC opponents. She ranks in the league’s Top 8 in wins, ERA, opponent batting average and strikeouts. The Texas native is 4-1 with a 1.63 ERA in her last five appearances.
Jackson was an All-SEC Second-Team performer for the Tigers and returns to the NFCA All-South Region squad after earning similar honors in 2007. She hit .323 and added 13 multi-hit games, including a pair off of Florida ace Stacey Nelson.
LSU opens NCAA Tempe Regional Friday against Cal State Fullerton. First pitch against the Titans is slated for 4:30 p.m. CT and will be televised live on ESPN U.
All of LSU’s games from the NCAA Tempe Regional will be televised by the ESPN Family of Networks in addition to being broadcasted live on The X 104.5/104.9 in the Baton Rouge area.
