BATON ROUGE — The No. 18 LSU softball team will look to bounce back from a 0-2-1 weekend Tuesday when it heads to Nicholls.

The Tigers (22-9-1, 8-5-1 SEC) returned to practice for a two-hour workout Monday after going 6-for-33 over the weekend with runners in scoring position.

“It was excellent to see the players out here an hour before practice working together as a team to correct some mistakes,” head coach Yvette Girouard said. “I think it will be good for this young group to get right back out on the field and get another opportunity to knock in those stranded base runners.”

Kirsten Shortridge has racked up a team-best 16 multi-hit efforts, including five straight. She paces the Tigers with 49 hits on a .415 batting average and is 16-for-21 in the stolen base department.

Jazz Jackson is on a season-long six six-game hitting streak and is coming off a 5-for-12 weekend against No. 13 Tennessee.

Rachel Mitchell headlines LSU with eight multi-RBI games and has picked up 12 of her team-leading 24 RBIs in her last 10 games. Right behind Mitchell is a trio of freshmen as Ashley Langoni, Juliana Santos and Anissa Young have combined for 50 RBIs.

In the circle, Casey Faile is scheduled to make her first start since opening weekend where she earned a complete-game victory at Hawai`i. She hasn’t surrendered an earned run in her last seven appearances, a stretch of 14.1 innings.

“Casey deserves the start with how well she’s been throwing recently,” Girouard said. “The game plan is for her to hopefully go all seven innings for us.”

First pitch against the Colonels is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be broadcasted live on The X 104.5 and 104.9 in the Baton Rouge area. Patrick Wright, the voice of Tiger softball, will call the play-by-play action. Live stats also will be available on LSUSports.net
