LSU completed the regular season with 12 victories in its final 15 games, including nine wins in the last 12 SEC games … the Tigers have also won six of their last seven contests overall … the Tigers batted .347 as a team during the 15-game stretch and outscored the opposition, 122-53 … the LSU pitching staff has a 3.20 ERA over the past 15 games and the Tigers have limited opponents to a .235 batting average … junior centerfielder Mikie Mahtook led the Tigers to a series victory over Mississippi State last weekend, batting .545 (6-for-11) with one double, one homer, five RBI and seven runs … for the entire four-game week, Mahtook batted .533 (8-for-15) with one double, one triple, one homer, six RBI and seven runs … Mahtook is hitting .383 on the year with 12 doubles, five triples, 14 homers, 56 RBI, 61 runs and 29 steals … Mahtook has reached base safely in 70 consecutive games, including all 56 games this season and the final 14 games of 2010 … he has a chance to become the first player since 1974 to lead the SEC in both home runs and stolen bases … freshman right-hander Kevin Gausman defeated Mississippi State on Thursday, limiting the Bulldogs to one run on four hits in 7.2 innings with one walk and seven strikeouts … Gausman has won three of his last four SEC starts, posting a 1.17 ERA in 30.2 innings with five walks, 32 strikeouts and a .148 opponent batting average during that stretch … junior right-hander Tyler Jones pitched a brilliant three-hit shutout on Tuesday versus the University of New Orleans, recording one walk and 15 strikeouts in a dominating performance … the 15 strikeouts recorded by Jones represented the most by an LSU pitcher since Anthony Ranaudo struck out 15 Auburn batters on April 24, 2009.
