TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –The fifth-ranked LSU gymnastics went on the road put up a season-high score of 197.450 to take down No. 9 Alabama Friday night in Coleman Coliseum.
The win for the Tigers (2-2, 1-2 SEC) marked the ninth-straight over the Crimson Tide (6-2, 1-1 SEC), which scored 196.850. The victory was also the third-straight in Tuscaloosa for the Tigers.
“I was very pleased how we fought from the first bars routine to the final beam routine,” head coach D-D Breaux said. “I was really proud of the performance by Ruby Harrold tonight and of course the job that Sarah Finnegan and Kennedi Edney did.”
Finnegan and Edney took home the all-around title with a score of 39.625. The win for Finnegan marked her fourth in four meets. Finnegan earned wins on floor and beam and Edney took the titles on vault and beam.
Bars Hits Six for Six to Start
The squad opened with a 49.325 on bars after six hit performances by the Tigers. Sophomores Sami Durante and Bridget Dean opened with scores of 9.825 and a career high of 9.80 respectfully. Harrold put together a strong performance for a 9.85. Edney led the way for the squad with a 9.90 in the fourth spot. Lexie Priessman and Finnegan closed out the opening rotation with scores of 9.875.
Vault Sets Season High
The sticks were contagious in the second rotation as Finnegan opened LSU with a 9.875. Harrold continued her outstanding meet with a 9.90 for a season high. Julianna Cannamela returned to the lineup and earned a 9.875. Edney drilled her Yurchenko 1 ½ for a season-high score of 9.925. Freshman Bailey Ferrer made her first career appearance on vault and closed the Tigers with a 9.825.
Floor Pushes Lead
With Alabama closing the gap, the Tigers were able to push their lead with a score of 49.325 on floor. Harrold paced the Tigers in the opening rotation with a 9.85, and Cannamela followed in her first floor routine of the season with a 9.775. A beautiful 9.95 by Finnegan was sandwiched by 9.875s from Edney and Kelley.
Beam Shuts the Door in Tuscaloosa
The Tigers scored a season high 49.400 on beam to leave no doubt and secure the win. Christian Desiderio opened up with a 9.850 and Dean followed with a career-high score of 9.825. Edney set a season high of 9.925 in the third spot followed by a 9.875 from Reagan Campbell. Finnegan ended the night and secured the victory with a 9.925.
