BATON ROUGE – LSU volleyball’s senior middle blocker Olivia Beyer and junior setter Anna Zwiebel notched Google Cloud Academic All-District Team honors Thursday as voted upon by the College Sports Information Directors of America [CoSIDA].
It is just the second time in program history that the Tigers earned two all-district honors in a season. Beyer and Zwiebel become the eighth and ninth honors in the program and Zwiebel is the second player in program history to earn back-to-back CoSIDA Academic All-District honors.
Both Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Team ballot, with first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees to be announced in December.
Beyer and Zwiebel have the top two GPAs on the team coming in at 4.10 and 4.09, respectively. Beyer will graduate with a degree in Nutrition and Food sciences at the end of this academic year, while Zwiebel is majoring in kinesiology.
A Canton, Michigan native, Beyer has one of the best hitting percentages on the squad. She is hitting .288 on the season. She is third on the team in blocks with 54 and averages 1.82 kills per set as a middle blocker. Beyer has finished in double-digit kills four times this season with a season-high of 12 kills in the five-set win over SMU. She picked up a season-high six blocks on two occasions against Texas State and Georgia, while also recording a career-high of a .500 hitting percentage at Georgia on September 21.
As a setter, Zwiebel is hitting .403 with 31 kills on 62 attacks this season. She averages 5.17 assists per set, recording over 30 assists on six occasions with a season-high of 59 at Ole Miss on October 7. She has five matches with 10 or more digs, including a season-high of 14 against SMU and Texas A&M. This season, Zwiebel had a career-high four aces at Georgia on September 21 and matched a career-high of six kills against Auburn on October 14.
The Tigers are currently 11-14 on the year and 6-8 in the SEC. They travel to No. 13 Florida for a match on Friday at 6 p.m. CT. The match will stream live on SEC Network+. Live stats will also be available at LSUStats.com.
