Tigers Advance to SEC Golf Match Play Semifinal

SEA ISLAND, Ga. — The No. 1-seeded LSU men’s golf team began Saturday’s quarterfinals with a 3-0-2 win over No. 8 seed Texas A&M. The Tigers only trailed on a combined four holes during the matches.

The Tigers first victory of the day was captured by sophomore Philip Barbaree, who closed out Brandon Smith 3&1. Barbaree clinched the match with a birdie at the par 3 17th. Barbaree never trailed during the match.

Nathan Jeansonne also finished his match on the par 3 17th hole with a par. He won 2&1 over Walker Lee. After a birdie on the eighth, Jeansonne never looked back, securing the Tigers with their second point.

Jacob Bergeron clinched the Tigers quarterfinal victory with a 1-up win over Dan Erickson. Bergeron was 1-down with two holes to play before a birdie at the 17th squared the match and a par at the 18th secured the victory.

Luis Gagne and Trey Winstead‘s matches were all square when the Tigers clinched the quarterfinals. The Tigers will be matched up against No. 4 seed Auburn in the semifinals.
