BATON ROUGE, La. – After stellar performances at this past weekend’s track & field outdoor season opener in Lafayette, Jake Norris and Jurnee Woodward were named the SEC Men’s Freshman of the Week and Women’s Freshman of the Week by the conference office today.
Norris made history at the Louisiana Classics on Friday, March 16, when he set a new stadium record at the Ragin’ Cajuns Track Complex by recording a hammer throw mark of 232′ 10” (70.98m). The throw was also third all-time in LSU history, and puts Norris second in the NCAA.
In Woodward’s outdoor debut, she took home the first event titles of her career. Woodward placed first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.57, as well as in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking in at 1:00.29.
The LSU squads stay out on the road this week with a trip to the Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge, March 23-24, at Sun Angel Stadium/Joe Selleh Track in Tempe, Arizona.
