Track & Field Heads Outdoors in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, La. – After wrapping up the 2018 indoor season at the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas last weekend, the LSU track & field teams start the outdoor season in Lafayette to compete at the Louisiana Classics Friday and Saturday.

Most notable from last weekend was the women’s 60-meter dash as seniors Aleia Hobbs and Mikiah Brisco placed 1-2 among the nation’s best. Hobbs was crowned champion with a remarkable time of 7.07 which set a school and collegiate record.

Hobbs and Brisco will return to action in the women’s 4×100-meter relays this weekend. Jaron Flournoy will compete on the men’s side for the 4×100 relays, also coming off a point-scoring performance last weekend as he set a personal-best in the 200-meter.

The Ragin’ Cajuns Track Complex at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette will be the site of LSU’s outdoor opener with the field events kicking the meet off on Friday at 3 p.m. with Amy Stelly in the women’s pole vault and will conclude with Harrison Martingayle in the men’s steeplechase at 8 p.m.

Saturday’s action will kick off at 10:00 a.m. and the first Tiger competitors are set for 11:30 a.m. with Chadd Burns and Jonathan Nelson in the men’s pole vault. The last event of the day for the teams will be the women’s 5,000-meter run. LSU will be joined primarily by fellow Louisiana universities as Louisiana College, ULM, Louisiana Tech, Loyola, McNeese, New Orleans, Nicholls, Southeastern, Southern, Tulane and Xavier will all compete this weekend in Lafayette.
