BATON ROUGE – LSU seniors Carley Hoover and Allie Walljasper were named as Top 30 candidates for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate softball. The Senior CLASS (Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School) Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Hoover and Walljasper are one of the top one-two punches in the country. The two have combined for 119 wins at LSU, a 1.63 ERA, 1,005 strikeouts and 38 shutouts. This season Walljasper is 10-1 with a 0.98 ERA, five shutouts and 63 strikeouts in 64.1 innings of work. Hoover is 9-1 with a 0.51 ERA, five shutouts and 83 strikeouts in 68.2 innings.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
The class of 30 candidates will be narrowed to a field of 10 finalists later in the season. Final ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans who will select the one candidate who best exemplifies the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
