NEW ORLEANS – With several top national performances in the books over the last two weeks, the LSU women’s track & field team is ranked No. 9 in the first U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings of the regular season announced this afternoon.
The Lady Tigers grabbed four of the top 10 times in the nation in the 60 Meters at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational at Iowa on Saturday, Jan. 20. Senior Aleia Hobbs ran a 7.14 in the finals for the top time in the nation, while her prelim time of 7.24 ranked third last week.
For Hobbs, it was the second weekend in a row for the native of New Orleans to crack the Top 10. Hobbs and senior Mikiah Brisco ran 7.23 and 7.17, respectively, at altitude in the Corky Classic at Texas Tech on Jan. 20.
Also at Iowa, junior Kortnei Johnson had the second-best time in the nation with a 7.19 in the 60 Meters, while her 7.31 in the preliminary heats ranked tied for seventh. Sophomore Tonea Marshall added to the Lady Tigers’ top performances with a time of 8.12 in the 60-Meter Hurdles in Iowa, also her second week in a row to hit the Top-10 list.
Juniors Zakiya Denoon and Rachel Misher posted Top-10 times in Lubbock in the 200 Meters, while sophomore Brittley Humphrey added a Top-10 time in the 60 Meter Hurdles.
