BATON ROUGE – With an average score of 197.200 after two weeks of competition, the LSU gymnastics team is ranked No. 1 in the nation for the 10th time in school history, RoadtoNationals.com released Monday.
The Tigers posted a score of 197.250 on Friday at Florida and a 197.150 in the season opener against Arkansas. The score of 197.250 ranks second in the nation for 2018.
National rankings are based on a team’s overall season average for the first few weeks of the season before switching to the regional qualifying score (RQS).
In addition to the team rankings, LSU also owns the No. 1 bars ranking in the nation with a high score of 49.600. The squad ranks second on beam and third on both bars and floor.
Junior Lexie Priessman ranks second in the nation on vault with an average score of 9.912. Priessman has posted career-high scores of 9.90 and 9.925 during the first two weeks of the season.
Sophomore Kennedi Edney performed in the all-around for the first time this season on Friday night. Edney ranks third on bars, 10th on floor and eighth in the all-around.
Junior Sarah Finnegan clinched LSU’s win over the Gators with an outstanding beam routine and score of 9.925. Finnegan is tied for first place in the nation on beam and fifth in the all-around. Finnegan’s all-around score of 39.650 from week one is the second highest in the nation.
The Tigers return to action on Friday at 7:30 p.m. CT against No. 9 Alabama. Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets early to avoid lines on meet day. The first 1,500 to walk through the doors will receive an Ashleigh Gnat bobble head.
