Duop Reath Named SEC Hoops POW

BATON ROUGE – LSU junior college transfer Duop Reath made his first LSU basketball game as a Tiger a good one and he was rewarded by being named the first Southeastern Conference Basketball Player of the Week announced by the league office on Monday.

Reath helped the Tigers to a season opening 91-69 win over Wofford Saturday afternoon at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. LSU returns to action Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the Maravich Center against Southern Miss.

Reath posted a double double of 23 points and 14 rebounds with three blocked shots as he became the sixth player in the Johnny Jones era at LSU to have at least one game of 20 points and 10 rebounds. The others were Ben Simmons, Jarell Martin, Jordan Mickey, Johnny O’Bryant III and Shavon Coleman.

The 6-10, 235-pounder from Perth, Australia also had three steals and shot 69.2 percent (9-of-13).

Reath played the last two years at Lee College in Texas.
