TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – Sophomore Dajour Braxton and senior Ashley Welborn led the Tigers and Lady Tigers’ respectively in the Crimson Classic this morning at Harry Pritchett RC. Braxton finished in 51st place individually, recording a time of 25 minutes, 45.7 seconds. Welborn crossed the finish with a time of 22:17.6 to earn 76th place.
The Lady Tigers finished with 421 points to give them a 16th-place finish out of 26 total teams. The men’s team earned 14th place out of 24 schools with 400 points.
Head Coach Khadevis Robinson feels that both teams can learn and grow from this outing.
“The teams had an average performance,” Robinson said. “I feel that we may have trained a bit too hard, yet I think they will benefit from it at Conference.”
Crossing after Welborn for the women’s team was sophomore Hannah Borque who finished in 102nd place with a time of 22:40.8. The following two Lady Tigers to finish were sophomore Erika Lewis and junior Rebecca Little who earned 110th and 128th place respectively. Lewis recorded a time of 22:46.6, and Little crossed in at 23:01.1.
Following Little for the Lady Tigers was junior Ellen Barkemeyer who recorded a time of 23:03.8 to earn 131st-place, and sophomore Hollie Parker followed in 141st-place with a time of 23:09.5. Senior Jenna Walker was the seventh Lady Tiger to finish in 172nd-place recording a time of 23:42.6. Senior Danielle Avery and freshman Amelie Whitehurst rounded out the women’s team efforts with times of 25:02.3 and 28:23 respectively. Avery finished in 228th place while Whitehurst earned 271st place.
For the men’s team, junior Christian Johnson followed Braxton with a 90th-place finish recording a time of 26:16.2. Junior DC Lipani and freshman Harrison Martingayle, the third and fourth Tigers to finish, earned 106th and 114th place respectively. Liapni crossed in 26:31.1 while Martingayle finished in 26:35.9. Senior Blair Henderson followed with a time of 26:50.6 earning 137th place. Juniors Daniel Tanner and Jack Wilkes finished next for the men’s team with times of 27:13.0 and 27:15.4 respectively. Tanner crossed in 167th place while Wilkes earned 171st place.
Sophomore Jackson Fountain finished in 188th place with a time of 27:28.7. The final two Tigers to finish were freshman Alex Harp and junior Bryan Stamey. Harp earned 195th place with a time of 27:34.7. Stamey recorded a time of 27:57.1 earning 205th place.The Tigers and Lady Tigers will both return to action in two weeks where they will compete in the SEC Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Both races will take place at the Agri Park XC Course.
