TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — After a strong showing at the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships last week, the Lady Tigers now turn their attention to the ITA Southern Regional beginning Friday, Oct. 14 hosted by the University of Alabama.
The tournament features teams from the ITA’s Southern region, including Alabama, Auburn, Louisiana Tech, McNeese, Mississippi State, Tulane and ULL, among others.
Freshman Becca Weissmann is hoping to build upon her impressive introduction to collegiate competition and junior Ryann Foster will look to continue her stellar form in singles competition. Seniors Joana Valle Costa, Skylar Holloway and Abby Owens will join Weissmann and Foster in Tuscaloosa.
Foster and Holloway will team up for the doubles main draw while Valle Costa and Weissmann will form LSU’s other pairing.
In singles competition, No. 107 Abby Owens will face Zalina Khairudinova of Ole Miss, Holloway will take on Christina Sisti of Tulane and Weissmann will square off against Iryna Vardanian of Northwestern State. Foster, ranked as the eight seed in the singles main draw, has a first-round bye.
The four-seed doubles pairing of Valle Costa and Weissmann has a first-round bye, as well as the duo of Foster and Holloway.
The first round of doubles competition will begin at 9:00 a.m. CT followed by the first and second rounds of singles competition.
