Foster, Weissmann Finish Strong on Final Day

CARY, N.C. — Ryann Foster and Becca Weissmann put the finishing touches on a strong weekend with victories in their final singles matches of the James Bonk Invite Sunday.

Foster jumped out to a one-set lead against Virginia’s Meghan Kelley before Kelley came back in the second set, but Foster ultimately won the match in an impressively-fought battle. Weissmann took down Camille Favero, also from Virginia, in a three-set bout in which Weissmann dominated the third set 6-0 after dropping the second set.

“They both had leads that they let slip but they both did a very job of staying positive and making adjustments in their matches to pull out the win,” said co-head coach Julia Sell.

Skylar Holloway and Abby Owens fell to Caroline Wegner of TCU and Cassie Mercer of Virginia, respectively, in their final singles matches of the invite, but Sell was overall very pleased with the way her squad competed this weekend.

“That’s why we played in this tournament,” said Sell. “We needed to be tested early to force us to raise our level.”

The Lady Tigers will regroup in Baton Rouge to continue training in preparation for the ITA Women’s All-American Championships beginning Oct. 1 in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
